awwwwwwwww! This is a great piece. The hero’s voice was cool and sweet and he was indulgent and loving I really liked him. I completely fell for his chuck-it-all-and-split idea, it’s something I’d like to do from time to time, the lure of the road-trip. I do like how he easily let those dreams slide away for the dream of family with his wife, it is what a good guy does. The ending just seemed a little too neat and tidy. Maybe I would have preferred it to end just a beat before the “happily ever after”. I don’t know, great job.

Wow. I loved it. Your character’s voice is amazing and the back and forth with his mom is natural and witty. Oh my gosh, you got my heart-strings with his sweet vulnerability to Bucky Thomas. His friends are great. I’d buy the book <3

Really good story. The claustrophobic atmosphere comes through and you have some great glimpses into personality. I like that your hero loves his wife and tries to do best for his family, making sure they see beauty. The coffee shop’s closing is a big deal to your depressed hero bringing home how little he is enjoying his life. Your last line is a cliche and while I’m sure it was an effect you were going for it brought me out of the spell of your story.

Hi Chase! lol! When I was younger I used to pay portions of my bills with whatever I had left after club night and shopping then Reality came around my way and stopped my shenanigans. Nice to meet you, looking forward to exchanging critiques.

Hi Susan! So nice to have both a summer and winter place to live. Extra friends, extra culture. Personally I love the idea of fresh starts with each move, kindof like spring cleaning but a lot more fun. Congratulations on your books.

Hi! I love Mad Men. I love it so very very much. I would definitely count myself as a feminist. I think it portrays the sexist attitudes of the day and how women struggled against them very well and from interesting unique female perspectives. Joan, Peggy, Betty, Sally and Megan sense things are wrong and/or unfair in different ways and find their way. I just love it.
I also love the sets and cinematography. Every single scene looks like it came from an art magazine or professional photo-shoot. The colour palette pleases me lol. The fashion too!
Also, the show, to me, is very literary. Each episode has a theme and it is repeated over and over in fascinating ways. It feels good to my soul.
Despite having many many unlikeable characters, they do feel honest and I’ve grown fond of so many.
Yes the sexism is there but I believe it is handled delicately and with a nod to consequence.
I just love it <3

Elisabeth! You are doing amazing things! Hymn histories is a fascinating subject. Traveling is such a wonderful experience, something I wish I could do more often. I’ve clicked your blog link, it’s serene and lovely. What hymn did you feel you -had- to include in your book?
