Edited the poem this morning and gave it a new title:
Within the Brushwood
Leopard sees
Python slither
From where she left her young;
Flexing fresh claws
from the hunt
She tears the scales,
rips the flesh apart.Python bleeds
A trail
As he descends
Into the dark wood,
and Wind sweeps
Dry leaves
from the empty belly of the den.Silent, she leaves the grave behind.

That’s great, Chase! Let us know how it turns out + share the link once it’s done. ๐

It’s too bad I couldn’t stick around longer during the chat. Looking forward to the next one! ๐

Hi Angie,
This is a great offer! Thank you so much. I was wondering if this also includes 3D images of the ebook or resource? That’s one of the things I’d love to have for my own books when displaying it on my site.

I love The Writer’s Carnival! You got my vote. ๐

Haha I’ve been working on building email lists for the past 3-6 months, so I’ve been reading up. ๐ Thanks LoriMarie!

I’ve used Google Groups for one of my undergrad classes. It’s okay. Not as robust as, say, the Story Cartel forums, but it does the job and it may have new features.
We can also try Google+ Communities. It combines the private and public nature of forums and collaboration, since we can set it as closed and yet accept interested people outside of our cartel to be members.
I can set one up for all of us if you’re interested. Or if everyone prefers Google Groups, we can go with that too. ๐

I see. Thanks for all this information Angie! I appreciate you taking the time to explain.
I’m wondering why the word “vanity” though. It has a rather negative connotation. Would that also mean that self-publishing is vanity publishing, since the author is paying for services in order to put together his/her book?

Hey Brian,
Glad to hear that you’re tech savvy as well! I’ve volunteered to help James put together the website. I’ve just the basic skills to put together a working WordPress site, so maybe you know how to do a couple of things than me.
If you’d like, we can team up to build the site. James has already shared some requirements; I can share them with you if you’d like.
Let me know! ๐

Hey Joe, good to hear from you!
LOL like I said in my response to Angie, I guess I wasn’t clear that I want to set up an ebook publishing press for Filipino authors, but wanted to know if it’s possible to create one that doesn’t discriminate authors based on a set standards.
In short, as publisher, I’d be happy to help the author publish his or her work, whether he/she has earned lots of awards or has only submitted his/her work for publishing for the very first time. Here are my services, these are the prices.
What do you think?

Hey Angie,
Thanks for sharing your experiences as a publisher! I’ve a couple of questions.
1. What exactly is the business model of an indie press/publishing house today? Do they approach the publisher and pay for all of the costs you mentioned above?
2. What do you mean by “indie co-op” or a cartel?
Reading my post again, I guess I wasn’t clear about the description of the platform in question. I want to act as a “publisher” for these authors and offer all of these services (e.g. editing, file conversion to the different ebook formats, design), but the only difference is taking out the factor of selection. In other words, I don’t want to butt in and say to Author A, “I like your work! Let’s publish you.” and to Author B, “No, your work does not fit our standards or style.”
What do you think? I hope this clears things up. Thank you so much for responding!

I vote for #1. ๐
I got your email by the way and have sent my response. Thanks! Really excited to make this happen for the group.

James, I in turn am thankful that you shared this idea with the group and for your enthusiasm to make it all happen. I’ve collaborated with classmates and fellow writers before but the plans have never concretized due to lack of interest or higher priorities.
On my part, my strengths and interests lie in website building (specifically WordPress) so if you need help putting together the collaborative site, let me know and we can discuss the details during the meeting.
Thanks!

Hey James, sounds like a fantastic idea! I’d love to join the club, but I write poetry and they’re usually 1-2 pages long depending on how far the writing and experience can take me. Would that be all right?
If yes, let’s set a deadline for this. And if any of us are building email lists and growing subscriber numbers, this can be a really great incentive to give to visitors of our blogs and author websites.
Another idea here: what if we put it up on Amazon? ๐ Just a thought, of course. Could be fun to do!

Hi Sunny,
It just got approved. ๐

I noticed that the book is priced at $2.99. How do I change the price to say $0.00 or $0.99? Is this possible for newly registered authors?
The collection (7 poems) is intended simply to be downloaded and read, so I’m worried that someone might spend $2.99 and be surprised with how short it actually is.
