Hi Sunny. You’ll have to tell me more about how Daniel the Draw-er is going. I haven’t had an update in a while.

Hopefully, I find enough time to dedicate to the course.

We’ll rock the Story Cartel world again.

Congrats on the recent release! That must feel amazing ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually know what a doula is and know several who started in the profession. Like you, they weren’t fans of being on call all the time. Most moved into the childbirth education sector offering classes and workshops to expectant parents.

Glad you decided to join us and I look forward to reading your work.

    Thanks!

Wow. not sure why half of my message up there is a big, long link. I’m sure I messed up my link code. Anyway…

Thanks, Angie! It’s fun to have my story out there. I’ve been invited to several schools to speak with elementary classes who have read my book. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m off call now with no clients lined up. It’s times like these where I always wonder if now is the time to transition to something else. With a book out there–and well-received–maybe it really is time. Childbirth education isn’t something I’m drawn to, unfortunately. A fledgling doula organization asked me to come on staff and help them write their curriculum, but I’m even struggling with that because I’m a creative writer, first and foremost. I write fiction so I don’t have to research statistics and draw up charts and graphs. Not sure how that will pan out.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Sunny, they mean so much to me.
(I would comment on your reply to my comment, but I don’t know how! ;p So I left it here. I will review your book and I’m looking forward to working with the fantastic writer/editor/horse owner ever. (Your pic always reminded me of my horse, Bluebar.)

Thanks for the follow, Elise. I’ll follow you, too!

It really is a rewarding job, and I’ve met a lot of wonderful people through birth. Doula work has definitely given me a lot to think about, and it was the push I needed to get into writing.

Nice to meet you Sunny! (I’ll stick with Sunny – I live in England and you know how we are about the weather…)

How lovely to have horses. I’m jealous.

I’m a Nurse Practitioner in my other life. I’ve never delivered a baby (other than my own), but I get the ‘hard work but rewarding’ bit.

A Nurse Practitioner? Awesome! I’ve had the privilege of working with some very lovely Nurse Practitioners.

A visit to England is on my bucket list. Just today I told my husband that I need to get out of the States. I can’t live in a place where “totes m’gotes” is a thing. Haha! It IS true that I have a fascination with most things British, so I feel a little stir in my soul when I think about it.

I’m happy to answer to “Sunny”. Almost comfortable with it, really.

      Thanks for saying hello!

Hi Sunny! I fell for your style and characters in the story you wrote for exercise 1. You have a lot of talent and a knack for character voice and personality and fun and wit and your writing flows in a charming way. I’m def downloading your book.
Like others, I’d appreciate learning from your experiences. I wonder if you’d consider making a post in the forums. maybe others who have insight to share would follow. just a thought ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks, LoriMarie, for your very encouraging words!

I could post a a topic in the forums, but I’m wondering if there’s something specific you’d like me to share?

Hey Sunny, I don’t really know enough to ask an appropriate question. I would be interested in maybe a top ten list. Something like 10 Things I’ve Learned About Publishing.

Hi Sunny! Welcome back and I’m really glad you’ll be joining the community a second time. I actually downloaded Daniel the Draw-er this morning and have just started reading. I’m liking it already! Congratulations. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m familiar with the work of a doula, and it’s unfortunate the role isn’t common where I live (Philippines). Expectant mothers are either left alone in their “cellars” inside the labor room while waiting for their babies to arrive or have their family members by their side (only allowed in a select few hospitals).

Looking forward to learning from you!

    Hi Stephanie!

Thanks for downloading “Daniel”. You’ll have to let me know what you think as you go along.

It’s a shame doulas aren’t more common in a lot of areas. Laboring alone shouldn’t be the norm, unless that’s the way the mother feels most comfortable. ๐Ÿ™

    Thanks for saying hi!

It’s very sad! With my second baby, I was stuck in my station for three whole days doing nothing but stare at the ceiling, receive medications, listen to the fetal monitor, and watch nurses and doctors walk in and out.

I wasn’t allowed to have my husband with me, my own mother, my mobile phone, zip. It was very traumatising!

I’ll be sure to leave my review once I finish your book. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m sorry that was your experience, and, it sounds like, the experience of so many childbearing women in your country. That’s awful and so counter-productive to staying relaxed and comfortable. Ugh.

The US does not have a great ranking when it comes to infant mortality rates despite our innovation, but we are lucky enough to have companions in our birth rooms. That kind of support is priceless.

    Hi Stephanie,

Funny, but I just posted a story for the first exercise which is very loosely based on a similar birth experience about 30 years ago. Seems like some things never change…
