    Hey Judith,

I didn’t know you were an academic and journalist. Which publications did you work for and what was your focus? What did you teach?

Welcome to the course. Excited to get to know you better! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good morning, Joe.

I’m an academic from the student, not the teaching side. Before throwing in the towel, I did three years towards a PhD in Classical Chinese Lit. While in grad school I did a lot of academic editing for my professors. Before that I worked in the School department at Harcourt Brace in NYC.

I’ve freelanced all over the place, wrote the text for a very successful photograph book about Indonesia, and was a regular reporter for the Richmond (MA) Record until last June. For most of what should have been my working life I lived overseas, in Australia, Indonesia and Singapore.

I’ve been back in the US for 16 years, mostly playing with horses. Now I’m a writer, very anxious to share my work.

I’ve been lurking on your blog for a long time, enjoying all of your posts and good advice.

Welcome Judith! You sound like you would know a lot about horses and editing, things that it seems I’m always needing more information on. I think it is awesome that you are joining the Story Cartel and you’ve come prepared to pull your stories out from the desk drawer.

It is amazing how much we have to write once we start doing it.

Judith, so sorry to hear about the accident but am glad you still have the words. I’m excited to meet someone who knows my part of the world (S.E. Asia) and one of my languages (Chinese). Looking forward to reading more of your writing.

    Hi, Judith,
We have a moment in common. I just let go of one of my horses last week. What a decision, and what a difference it made!! I hope your accident brings you gifts you never imagined! Glad to be here with you as you explore that!

    Hey Judith,

Love your determination to get back up on your feet and finally get your writing out into the world! It’s great to have you as a fellow Cartelista and I look forward to reading your work and that of the rest of the community.

By the way, I love horses too, though the opportunity to be with them is scarce where I live. I hope the accident hasn’t tarnished your love for them.

Judith, I am honored to be working with you. I had a fall from another horse (not my Bluebar) though not as serious as yours, I sympathise. I am so glad you bring the academic and journalistic side to our group. (So AP or Chicago? I’ll have to watch my commas.)
I am stuck in with Lupus/RA and a broken back so I understand, at least I think, the problems you also face.
Looking forward to connecting with our words.

    Hi Judith:
I also am horse crazy and spent much of my life wrangling cattle, racing horses etc. etc. I have fallen off countless times but was never seriously hurt. sorry to hear of your accident but it sounds like know how to pick yourself up. I am very excited to meet you in this class. I need some work to figure out how to do replies easily, but I guess that will come.
    Cheers,
    Sue

    Stuart,

Inspiring? I wish! Just foolhardy and prey to wishful thinking. But very very lucky. Even luckier to start writing. I don’t know what I’d do without it.

    Looking forward to your work.

Wonderful how you’ve turned adversity into a positive direction. And if you’ve been writing for three years, you must be more than just a
    beginner…
